Modular lightweight ceiling system based on compressed mycelium composite shells
MyCeiling develops a modular, bio-based lightweight ceiling system using compressed mycelium composite shells reinforced with wood and bamboo structures. The project explores for the first time the use of mycelium as a structural material in load-bearing ceiling elements through optimized shell geometries, material formulations, and scalable manufacturing processes such as fiber injection molding and hot pressing. Mechanical, fire, and durability performance are systematically investigated, while digital design and fabrication methods enable efficient production of circular, CO₂-reducing building systems.
