From a linear to a circular understanding of construction
RoofKIT, KIT’s winning entry in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2021–22 university competition, is a design project for the vertical expansion of an existing building in an era of climate change and resource scarcity. The demonstrator, a part of the overall design, consists of prefabricated timber modules and showcases solutions for the use of circular building materials as well as the reuse and recycling of building materials. All components in the demonstrator are joined together in order to be dismantled in future without any loss of quality. RoofKIT demonstrates the paradigm shift from a linear to a circular understanding of construction and leads to a rethinking in the construction industry.
