Bachelor Design Studio CHANGING TRACKS: Site visit
This semester, students in the GLEISWECHSEL Design Studio will be working on the regeneration and conversion of a former Federal Railway School, situated at the western end of the Hauptbahnhof Süd development area in Karlsruhe.
At the start of the semester, they visited the vacant existing building together with lecturers from the Professorship of Sustainable Construction, as well as Thomas Gillich, Deputy Head of the Amt für Hochbau und Gebäudewirtschaft in Karlsruhe, and Elena Steiger, a representative from the Karlsruhe Wirtschaftsförderung, to gain a first-hand impression of the building’s urban location and transport links, its structural condition, and its spatial relationships – including all the constraints, potential and opportunities involved.
