From waste to high-performance mycelium-based biocomposites
The researchers Alireza Javadian, Xin Ying Chan, Nazanin Saeidi, Dirk E. Hebel and Frank Schultmann recently published a scientific report in Nature. In this study they demonstrate that abundant residues can be effectively valorized as feedstocks for the production of high-performance mycelium-based composite materials. The findings show that substrate composition plays a key role in determining the microstructure and mechanical performance of mycelium composites, providing a viable pathway for transforming underutilized lignocellulosic waste into functional bio-based materials.
