Research Seminar: The Tree as a Resource

Whether as a living tree or a processed wood product, few natural resources are as present in our everyday lives as wood. Thanks to its wide range of applications and its reputation as a sustainable material, wood is often regarded as an environmentally friendly choice. Yet behind this positive image lies one of the world’s largest industries.
In this research seminar, you will investigate the production chains and uses of wood, as well as alternative wood-based materials and applications. The insights gained will be compiled into datasets and material samples for the material library.
In the seminar, you will learn to critically analyse raw materials, manufacturing processes and materials systems, and to evaluate their use in architecture.
